Town and Village of Camillus building permits
Camillus has two code offices. In the Town of Camillus outside the village, the town’s Code Enforcement Office takes building permit applications online and asks applicants to allow up to 10 business days for permit review (town Code Enforcement page). Under chapter 26 of the town code, revised in April 2026, no permit is needed for repairs that do not affect the structural system, the required exits or the fire protection system, or for finish work such as painting, wallpapering, tiling and carpeting (town code, chapter 26).
Inside the Village of Camillus, chapter 53 of the village code, adopted in 2023 as Local Law No. 1, requires a village building permit before work that must conform to the Uniform Code or the Energy Code, such as an addition or a demolition. One-story detached sheds, playhouses and similar structures for one- or two-family homes are exempt when their floor area is no more than 153 square feet (village code, chapter 53).
Across the town as a whole, the village included, 79 percent (margin of error 2 percentage points) of the 11,481 housing units are single-family detached and the median home was built in 1966 (margin of error 1 year); in the village alone the median is 1958 (margin of error 7 years) (American Community Survey 2020-2024 5-year estimates).
