Fayetteville’s codes office and its 2022 building chapter

In the Village of Fayetteville, the Codes Enforcement Officer enforces the State Uniform Code and the village’s own codes, including building and zoning rules, and the village asks anyone planning repairs, alterations, additions or new construction to contact the codes officer to discuss what may be needed (Building and Codes page). The same page links state guidance on asbestos responsibilities.

The village replaced its building administration chapter, chapter 78, with Local Law No. 4 of 2022 (Local Law No. 4 of 2022). In October 2026 the online village code still showed legislation only through 2021, so the filed law, not the older codified chapter, is the current text. Under it, multiple dwellings and nonresidential buildings are inspected for fire safety and property maintenance at least once every 36 months.

About 59 percent (margin of error 6 percentage points) of Fayetteville’s 2,092 housing units are single-family detached and about 14 percent (margin of error 7 percentage points) are in buildings with two to four units; the median home was built in 1961 (margin of error 5 years; American Community Survey 2020-2024 5-year estimates).

Not fully. Chapter 78, building administration, was replaced by Local Law No. 4 of 2022, and in October 2026 the online code still showed legislation only through 2021. Use the filed local law for the current text.
