What the Village of Liverpool asks for before remodeling
The Village of Liverpool applies the New York State Uniform Code and requires a building permit for work covered by that code, the Energy Code and the village zoning ordinance. The village’s own list names decks, sheds, fences, remodeling that opens walls, electrical work, plumbing work including fixtures and water heaters, heating equipment and roofs, so a roof replacement or a new deck starts with a village permit. Paving or changing a driveway or parking area, and any excavation or fill, need a village permit too, and every building permit application must include proof of workers’ compensation insurance or an exemption.
Before a demolition permit, including demolition that prepares a remodel, the village requires an asbestos survey. The exception is owner-occupied single-family work done by the owner. The village explains these steps on its Building, Safety and Code Enforcement page.
A Liverpool mailing address does not always mean the village. Homes outside the village line are in the Town of Salina, where building permits come from the town’s Office of Planning and Development. Inside the village, about 63 percent (margin of error 9 percentage points) of the 1,344 housing units are single-family detached houses (American Community Survey 2020-2024 5-year estimates).
