Pompey building permits and rural site rules
The Town of Pompey Building/Zoning office enforces the State Uniform Code together with the town code and zoning laws. It reviews building permit applications and plans, issues building permits and performs inspections, which are available by appointment only (Pompey Building/Zoning page). The office accepts electronic plans for single-family homes, garages, and additions or renovations.
Rural lots bring extra checks: the same office enforces wetland, flood plain and stormwater regulations, and its page lists Onondaga County Plumbing Control for plumbing.
Pompey is almost entirely owner-occupied single-family housing: of its 2,901 housing units, about 94 percent (margin of error 4 percentage points) are single-family detached, and owners live in about 97 percent (margin of error 3 percentage points) of the occupied homes. The median year built is 1980, with a wide margin of error of 8 years (American Community Survey 2020-2024 5-year estimates).
