Development permits in the Town of DeWitt

In the Town of DeWitt the permit is called a development permit. It comes from the town’s Department of Development and Operations and is required before work that must conform to the Uniform Code or the Energy Code, apart from listed exemptions (DeWitt town code, chapter 94). Permit, certificate and inspection fees are set by Town Board resolution, and chapter 15 of the code holds the fees, so the amount for renovation work comes from the current town schedule.

The Village of East Syracuse, inside the town, issues its own permits, and part of Lyncourt also lies in DeWitt. Counting the village, the town has 10,996 housing units, 70 percent (margin of error 3 percentage points) of them single-family detached houses; its median year built is 1963, with a margin of error of 2 years (American Community Survey 2020-2024 5-year estimates).
