Village permits in East Syracuse
The Village of East Syracuse issues permits for new construction, alteration, demolition, signage, accessory buildings, swimming pools, spas and fences. Alterations to a house, a new garage or shed, a pool and a fence therefore all go through the village’s building code enforcement office. The Board of Trustees approves the village fee schedule and may amend it by resolution, so the current amounts come from the village rather than from an older published list.
Small multi-unit buildings are common in the village: about 44 percent (margin of error 14 percentage points) of its 1,464 housing units are in buildings with two to four units, while about 42 percent (margin of error 9 percentage points) are single-family detached houses (American Community Survey 2020-2024 5-year estimates).
Some homes with an East Syracuse mailing address lie outside the village, in the Town of DeWitt. There the town’s Department of Development and Operations issues a development permit for work that must conform to the Uniform Code or the Energy Code.
