Town of Cicero building permits

Town of Cicero rules require a building permit for work that must conform to the Uniform Code or the Energy Code. They are in chapter 68 of the town code, adopted as Local Law No. 1 of 2023, which also has multiple dwellings inspected at least once every 36 months and leaves permit fees to Town Board resolution (Town of Cicero code, chapter 68).

These rules cover Cicero outside the Village of North Syracuse, which administers its own building code. Housing in the town is mostly owner-occupied and single-family: about 81 percent (margin of error 2 percentage points) of the town’s 13,584 housing units are single-family detached, about 81 percent (margin of error 2 percentage points) of occupied homes are owner-occupied, with a median construction year of 1980 (margin of error 2 years; American Community Survey 2020-2024 5-year estimates). Before a kitchen renovation or another remodel, the town code office can say which parts of the work need a permit.
