Fairmount permits depend on the town line
Fairmount is a Census-designated place, not a village, and it crosses a town line: most of its Census 2020 blocks are in the Town of Camillus and the rest are in the Town of Geddes. Block counts are not land or population shares, so the town of a particular home has to be confirmed from its address.
On the Camillus side, the Town of Camillus Code Enforcement Office handles building permits, and the town’s chapter 26 exempts repairs that do not affect the structural system, the exits or the fire protection system (Camillus code, chapter 26). On the Geddes side, the Town of Geddes requires a separate building permit from its Code Enforcement Officer before a building is erected, enlarged, altered or improved (Geddes code).
Fairmount is mostly single-family and owner-occupied: about 84 percent (margin of error 4 percentage points) of its 4,569 housing units are single-family detached, about 82 percent (margin of error 4 percentage points) of its homes are owner-occupied, and the median home was built in 1961 (margin of error 2 years; American Community Survey 2020-2024 5-year estimates).
